yama_no_susume_2-02-fuji_san-mt_fuji-aoi-kaede-hinata-kokona-chibi-surprised-cute-adorable-charmingLast week: why the third episode of Space Dandy Season 2 might be my favorite of the year, an analysis on the diversity of rural settings and how the specifics of this are impacting Barakamon, some egregious contradictions with the mecha in Aldnoah.Zero, and some serious questions about the structure and purpose of Night Raid in Akame ga Kill!

sasami_san@ganbaranai-06-sasami-spaghetti-pasta-food-restaurant-giant_bite-comedy-all_in_one_biteThis week: questions about who the real big bad in Psycho-Pass could be, some thoughts on why I continue to watch Little Busters!, social cliques in character pairings in Senran Kagura, and some earth-shattering omissions in Maoyuu Maou Yuusha.

Winter 2013 – Week 5 Anime Review

sakurasou_no_pet_na_kanojo-16-misaki-happy-excited-energy-comedyThis week: why I don’t consider Senran Kagura an ecchi anime anymore, wondering about the comedy in Zetsuen no Tempest, the diversity of karuta opponents in Chihayafuru 2 and remembering the forgotten Reiko in Shin Sekai Yori.

Robotics;Notes – 3

Though the robots were miniature, the foreshadowing from this fighting tournament is huge considering the implications we can apply to the future of Robotics;Notes.  Though Tanegashimachine-3S could fit nicely within the pupil of GunPro1, the giant robot at the heart of this anime, witnessing its controls, kinetics, and performance for the first time gives us an excellent idea of what to expect from GunPro1 when it is complete and ready for action.  That is to say, though there may be elements of fantasy and fiction sprinkled throughout, we can expect the robots to behave as realistically or as physically-appropriate as possible.

Guilty Crown – 4

And my reaction:

…the hell am I watching?  Sometimes Guilty Crown is truly amazing, a visual masterpiece with exhilarating action sequences and intensified drama.  But other times it leaves you dumbfounded, confused, and needing to ask, “Really?  Is THAT really what I’m watching?”

Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam – 3

While I applaud the efforts of the continuity and consistency of Last Exile Fam in regards to the original, especially considering eight years and a near collapse of Gonzo have occurred between the two series, there are some pieces of this anime that just don’t feel right.  None is more evident than the discrepancy among vanships, airships, and other aerial machines that are the trademarks of this franchise.  For such an established and central aspect to be so different between the two anime, it should be nothing short of a surprise.
