Winter 2011 – Season Review

Despite the most popular show of the winter season still incomplete, I’ll go ahead and write my season review for Winter 2011.  It’s not like there’ll be any changes to the scores or how they rank when Puella Magi Madoka Magica finishes, so there’s no real point in waiting an undetermined amount of time to pretty much post the same thing, especially with the other nine shows already complete.

Mid-Season Review – Winter 2011

Figured with the halfway point in most shows being reached or surpassed, that I’d provide a concise review of each show I’m watching this Winter.  Their order listed below is in the order that I’d rank them now along with their numerical score (between 10-5).  I’ll also toss out my favorite character of each series, too, since that’s always fun.  Oh, and the best Art, Characters, Entertainment, Sound, and Story.  There are also some minor spoilers, so if you haven’t watched everything yet, just mind your eyes and skip those sections.

There’s Something About Merry

Yumekui Merry began on the fence for me.  Uninpressed, was I, of Yumeji’s personality and his whole ability to see dream colors through his thumb and index finger.  Merry, however, was the life of the series.  She is a visitor in a world very unfamiliar to her as she searches for clues of her past and a way to return home.  Her resolve seemed simple but interesting enough to drive the series forward and make a pretty good anime.  I figured I would finish the series, rate it a pedestrian score, and move onto another series once the Spring season began.  But there’s something about Merry, or rather, Yumekui Merry, that has grown on me these past few episodes.  And it has grown into one of the better animes this season.

I am sure of it…

After watching of an unhealthy majority of the shows this season (or at least part of them), I am sure of a few things:

First Week Impressions – Winter 2011

With the first week of Winter 2011 coming to a close, it’s time to look back and evaluate some of the shows that have aired. I’ve watched the first episodes several new shows: Kimi ni Todoke Season 2, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Infinite Stratos, Yumekui Merry, Gosick, Freezing, and Beelzebub. I am also planning on watching Fractale and Wandering Son which air this week on the noitaminA block.

I’ve already written a mini-recap and my reactions to three shows I plan on blogging (Kimi ni Todoke Season 2, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Freezing, and the fourth being Fractale) this season. Being my first season writing about anime, I’m attempting to be rather diverse in the genres I’m watching and writing about. You get a wide range of styles between shoujo/romance, magical girl/Shaft, fighting/ecchi, and fantasy/adventure. However, those four aren’t the only shows I’m planning on watching this season. In this post, I plan to give my opinion on the other four shows I’ve watched and my best guess as to whether I’ll finish the series out or drop it before the month ends.

Happy New Year!

Taking a second out of my… I guess this is my free time… I’m not quite sure, maybe?… to wish you all a safe and happy New Year. And with each passing day, the winter anime season approaches. This is always one of my favorite weeks, when we begin watching all the new shows. There’s some sense of marvel and speculation that seems to build it up like it’s something special. And since Christmas was just a short week ago, it allows me to use it as a relevant analogy in how I kinda see a new anime season.
