Dog Days – 12

Now that the twelfth episode of Dog Days has aired, all that remains is the finale to air next week.  There will be two distinct outcomes, either Shinku stays with everyone in Flonyard or returns home with the possibility of never returning.  So, can we tell what the outcome will be from foreshadowing in this episode?  It’s always worth a shot.

Dog Days – 11

A common miscalculation with many anime is that the ending is a disappointment.  Some end up being rushed, forgoing major details in storytelling in order to wrap up the show in the limited time given while others feel incomplete, leaving holes in the plot that could potentially be fatal to an anime.  Dog Days, however, allotted two full episodes to tell its conclusion, which is an intelligent move since it can now try to avoid these mistakes.  So how is this anime using its wisely budgeted time?

Dog Days – 7

How different would Dog Days be without Shinku?  Or even simpler, remove the whole ‘summoning from Earth/return to Earth’ aspect for the hero?  What would Dog Days be like if it were solely contained in this fantasy world?

Dog Days – 6

Despite being in a medieval-type setting, Dog Days doesn’t feel like a fantasy anime.  When you compare the setting of Dog Days to other anime, who also have married the concepts of kemonomimi girls and a medieval setting like Spice and Wolf or Utawarerumono, you begin to draw some similar results.  All shows have castles, villages, soldiers, and other stereotypical fantasy elements which provide a solid base for their stories.  But there are some evident elements that separates Dog Days from the others.
