The world in Puella Magi Madoka Magica is purely fascinating. The colors gently absorb you into their world. The light draws out details and strengthens the moment. The metropolis as a whole, with its complete absurdity of the architecture and brainless geography of space, simply give shape and structure to this very unique setting. With the novelty of the witch’s world waning in each episode, with this being the worst so far, I turn to the noteworthy style of the real world.
Ah, magical girls. So sweet, so innocent, so delicate. Nothing bad could possibly happen to these girls… right? Right?

For those of you who haven’t watched Hidamari Sketch, are you adjusted to the character designs of Madoka, yet? One of the questions I had when I saw the promotional art and videos was, “Isn’t this going to bother me?” Back then, I thought it’d take until half the series was over before I grew accustom to that character design. Instead, I consider myself cured, or at least immune, as of this episode.
So, Akiyuki Shinbo is directing a magical girl anime and Shaft is doing the animation. Having watched and loved some of their previous works (Bakemonogatari, Maria Holic, ef series), I could only get thrilled to see they were at it again this season with Puella Magi Madoka Magica. And I am not disappointed.
