Going on Hiatus

Between now (March 12) and March 26, I’ll be taking a break from blogging and anime in general.  The reason for the pause is I will be busy finishing up my finals and immediately be going on an international vacation to Thailand and later, Japan.  For the duration of the trip, I will be away from my computer which means no anime and even less blogging.

However, while I won’t be actively blogging, I do have a number of posts that are scheduled to be published while I am away so there won’t be a two week gap here on my blog.  There won’t be any new episodic posts but I will be catching up on Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam and including a few other posts I’ve been meaning to finish up.

Hope you all have a wonderful time while I am away and enjoy anime and blogging and whatever else to their fullest.  I look forward to returning to blogging at the end of March.  Until then!

12 Days of Anime – Day 7 – 1 Year Anniversary and Mistakes in Anime Blogging

Today, December 20th, marks the 1 year anniversary of my anime blog.  And since it’s in the middle of the 12 Days of Anime, let’s double up this anniversary with an appropriately themed 12 Days post.  The topic for today is about something central to the beginning of my anime blog and something I learned over the course of this year.  My whole system of classifying anime through the tags of Brain On/Brain Off never really made sense, caught on, or was used by others.  You could even say: it was never a good idea.

Check It Out! – Interview by Organziation Anti-Social Geniuses

In case you missed it, I was recently interviewed by Justin over at Organization Anti-Social Geniuses as part of the Thursday Lab Report series.  Every Thursday, a different person in the anime/manga community, including a manga editor, anime music reviewer and many more, is interviewed to highlight their interests and passion for what they do.  And this past Thursday was my turn to be interviewed with the focus on blogging anime.

If you were ever interested in learning more about anime blogging, my interests, or me in general, go check out the interview (linked below).  And while you’re there, try the other interviews as well, to see how diverse and interesting the anime/manga community is.  Be sure to check it out every Thursday to see what new interviews Justin has in store, too, since each week is glance into the mind of an anime/manga fan.

Kinda how I evaluate anime

There are a lot of passionate voices out there blogging about anime.  Yup… there are a lot.  What I find the most alluring about these blogs is finding out what shows these people enjoy and which ones they dislike.  People will come to various conclusions about the shows they watch based on whatever process they use to evaluate the show.  Of course, there are the popular anime, which everyone seems to favor, and the shitty anime, which no one bothered to watch.  Then there’s the raging mass of shows caught between these two sides.  These are the shows I find the most interesting because the spectrum of opinions ranges from extreme to extreme.  The sheer diversity of these thoughts is what I truly like to read.  However, there are so many different types of shows from comedy to sci-fi to action to adventure to ecchi to horror to slice-of-life to whatever.  How is it possible to evaluate the wide range of shows?

Another voice is born

Hello, hello, and welcome!

This place will be the home of my anime blog, where I plan to post my opinions, reactions, reviews, and, well… whatever on various anime.  No, I don’t think you’re stupid since you’ve probably already gathered that from the title or however you found this blog but an introduction is probably a good start and there really isn’t much else to talk about at this point.

I haven’t decided how I want this blog to develop, which may or may not be a bad thing.  I am hoping this blog will help me explore a few things about anime, connect with other anime fans, improve my sense of voice in writing, and discover what it is about anime that I enjoy so much.  Perhaps at this point the blog is more a project about understanding me than serving a community of anime fans.  However, I guess my first goal will be reaching out and connecting with people.

And with that, let us begin the first steps on this journey of exploration.
