12 Days of Anime (2015) – Day 4 – Year of the Sequels

It’s been 1 year, 6 months since Miss Monochrome, Non Non Biyori, and Noragami. It’s been 1 year, 9 months since Gatchaman Crowds and Monogatari Series Second Season. It’s been 2 years since Kamisama Kiss. It’s been 2 years, 3 months since Dog Days’ (S2).  It’s been 2 years, 9 months since K and Sidoni no Kishi. It’s been 3 years since Yuru Yuri ♪♪ (S2).  It’s been 3 years, 6 months since Working’!! (S2). It’s been 4 years, 6 months since Durarara!!. It’s been 5 years, 2 months since The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. It’s been 9 years since Utawarerumono, and it’s been 10 years since Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor. I think it’s safe to say, with all of these anime franchises returning with TV broadcasts, that 2015 will be remembered as Year of the Sequels.

Spring 2015 – Season Preview

mushishi_zoku_shou-06-spring-cherry_blossoms-sakura-flowers-pinkThe beginning of Spring is known for one thing in Japan and one thing only: a new season of anime. Also cherry blossoms and probably several other things, but those aren’t nearly as iconic to springtime in Japan as the debut of roughly 50 new TV anime in addition to an ever growing number of shorts, OVAs, and movies. As always, the focus of these previews will be on the newly airing TV anime which I will provide my assessment and plans for the next three months. What, exactly, should we be looking forward to for the Spring 2015 anime season?

12 Days of Anime (2012) – Day 5 – Dancing Openings and Endings of 2012

nisemonogatari-opening-tsukihi-koyomi-dancing-platinum_disco-kimonoLet’s face it, if there were a hierarchy of anime openings and endings, then the fanservice dancing ones would be on top.  They’re like the royalty of anime OPs and EDs, not only in terms of quality and fondness but also in how unforgettable or distinctive they are.  Remember that dance in Haruhi?  Or the Lucky Star opening? Or my personal favorite, the seconding ending to xxxHOLiC?  As soon as you infuse some dancing into an opening or ending, they improve or, at the very least, become more memorable.  This year, we witnessed the origination of several new dancing openings and endings, with each showing its influence by being some of the most cherished and celebrated sequences of the year.  And for this day, I want to honor these select few openings and endings for being some of the best in 2012.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita – 7

Putting together the various pieces to the puzzles in each episode in Humanity Has Declined has proven to be an amusing, yet sufficiently challenging activity while enjoying the series, but putting together the timeline of the series in chronological order based on the limited and indirect information from snippets of each episode?  Well, that’s something entirely different.
