Spring 2013 – Season Review
Posted by avvesione in 2013 Spring, Anime, Season Reviews on January 5, 2014
Since I never posted a final review for the Spring 2013 anime season, I figured now would be better than later. And while it’s not as late as some other season reviews, this one is a tad late. Nevertheless, it’s always worthwhile to take a moment and look back at how the anime of Spring 2013 performed.

Yes, you’re reading that right. Yes, this is for 2012, not 2013. Yes, this post is over an entire year late. Yeah… about that…

12 Days of Anime (2013) – Day 2 – Matoi Ryuuko

Can you name your favorite anime character? How about your second favorite? What about third? Fourth? What about fifth and sixth and onward?
For some, naming a favorite character or ranking favorite characters is a simple exercise, assessing and evaluating individuals based on their appearance, personality, actions and quirks and ordering them based on their final valuation. For others, it’s an impossible task; one that varies every time you ask due to differences in mood, memory and the fact that they do not have such a list written down. For me, however, I do have such a list – a basic one, at least – that answers this question or me whenever I think about it and wonder what I like best about anime characters. For anyone who knows me well, you’d figure that Matoi Ryuuko of KILL la KILL would immediately skyrocket up this list based on what we’ve seen. You’d be right, in fact, especially since Ryuuko is second overall. Considering how extensive this list must be considering the breadth of anime I’ve watched over the years, to have an anime character place second overall is nothing short of impressive and deserving of Day 2 in my 12 Days of Anime.

Last week: why minimal amounts of fanservice is strange in Hataraku Maou-sama!, why no character development is the best character development in Suisei no Gargantia, the exceptional development and use of its enormous cast in Kakumeiki Valvrave, and considering the time, expenses and logistics of Frenda’s attacks in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S.
Magi – 13
Within the Balbadd story arc, a specific hierarchy has been successfully established. No, no, this isn’t about the monarchy, class structure, or social order in Magi but instead about how the fighters and fighting is ordered into certain tiers based on the various acquired powers and intrinsic abilities present. With Alibaba now controlling and utilizing the flames of Amon, we’re able to better understand how powerful the magoi and djinn are and comprehend the difference in fighting capacity between these characters.
